Assessment of multiple geophysical techniques for the characterization of Illegal Dumping Site.
The investigation of an illegal dumping site at Tainan, the site delimitation was conducted with electromagnetic (in-phase and out-of-phase) and magnetic (vertical gradient and total field) methods that clearly showed the transition between the industrial waste and the formation. The geophysical surveys specifically aimed at delimitating the deposit site horizontal and vertical extension, at estimating its thickness and at characterizing the waste material composition.
Investigative Actions
We used electromagnetics(EM) to survey, which successfully draw the industrial waste determining area, then performed an electrical resistivity tomography(ERT) survey of the area in order to test for areas of high conductivity and metallic disturbance, which successfully determined the volume of buried waste.
